“One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD And to meditate in His temple.” Psalm 27:4 What a beautiful and inspiring prayer! It is filled with hope and joyful anticipation. This is a psalm of David, written during a time when enemies surrounded him, intent on destroying him. Yet, in the face of danger, David remains calm and confident. The psalm opens with these powerful words: “The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread?” Psalm 27:1 Even in the midst of trouble, David’s heart and mind are not consumed by fear of his enemies. Instead, they are fully captured by the greatness, beauty, and protective presence of God. Life often gives us plenty of reasons to feel anxious. We all face moments when circumstances seem beyond our control. Our worries may stem from present challenges, fears about what the future might hold, or painful memories that overshadow tomorrow. Whatever troubles our hearts, it is our view of God—His power, goodness, and nearness—that brings true relief, peace, and comfort. One wonderful way to start the day, especially when anxiety looms, is to prayerfully sing or read the Psalms each morning. Psalms like Psalm 27, and especially verse 4, help us gain eternal perspective. They lift our eyes above the storms, smooth out the rough paths of despair, and fill us with fresh hope. As we focus on God’s beauty and presence, our fears grow smaller, and our trust grows stronger. What a promising way to face whatever the day may bring! |
