“Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven. Your faithfulness continues throughout all generations; You established the earth, and it stands.”
Psalm 119:89-90

God is the architect of heaven and earth, the maker of all things seen and unseen. Because He is who He is, everything has order and stability. His word gives structure to life. His laws, precepts, and ordinances hold the universe together.

When I stop and think about it, I’m amazed. By His design, we can soar through the skies though we are not birds. We can live under the sea for months even though we are not fish. We can write music that touches the soul and poetry that stirs the heart.

The very laws that seem like limits are actually the keys to freedom. Physics, chemistry, mathematics, beauty—all of them are gifts. They open the door for us to create, to invent, to build, and even to rise above certain limits by rightly applying the laws God has already written into His creation. That’s how something heavy as stone can take flight like an eagle or rest upon the water as if it were light as wood.

But just as God’s laws govern the physical world, His word also speaks to our moral, spiritual, and emotional lives. Just as an engineer must respect the laws of physics to design a bridge that will stand, I must live within God’s design if I want my life to hold together. When I don’t, things begin to fall apart. The brokenness we see in society, the unrest in our own hearts, the confusion in our minds—all of it comes when we try to live as though God’s word doesn’t matter. I know I’ve done that myself. And when I have, I’ve ended up hurting not only me, but others too.

The Bible has a word for this: sin. And honestly, it’s madness. From the garden of Eden until now, we’ve all tried to go our own way. Isaiah said it plainly,

“All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way…” Isaiah 53:6

But thank God, that’s not the end of the story:

“…But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him.” Isaiah 53:6

Unlike an engineer who ignores the laws of physics and has no hope of success, we do have hope. We have a Savior who steps into our brokenness and takes upon Himself our sins and transgressions of His laws.

“Surely our griefs He Himself bore, And our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted. But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.”
Isaiah 53:4-5

This is where we find hope. Christ bore our sins, our griefs, our wounds—so that we could be healed by faith in Him and His redeeming grace. And because His word is settled forever, His promises will never fail.
