“You are good and do good; Teach me Your statutes.” The goodness of God is not just a comforting thought—it is the bedrock of our faith. It shapes how we understand who He is and how we interpret everything He does. If God were not good, His power could be dangerous, His love unpredictable, and His wisdom misguided. But because God is good—perfectly, infinitely, unchangeably good—everything He does is perfectly right, loving, and wise. He Himself is the standard of all goodness, and nothing He does ever falls short of that measure. We see this most clearly at the cross. The crucifixion of Jesus Christ was the greatest injustice in history—an unspeakable evil carried out by sinful men for sinful purposes. And yet, in that very moment, God revealed the depths of His love, the majesty of His power, and the fullness of His goodness. What looked like defeat was the greatest victory; what seemed like loss became the ultimate gain for all who believe. “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies; who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?” Because God is good, we can rest in this unwavering truth: nothing is wasted in His hands. Every circumstance—whether joyful or painful—can be woven into His perfect plan for our good and His glory. “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Take heart today—your life is held in the hands of the One who is perfectly, eternally, and unfailingly good. |
