Staying with this passage, “She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: “BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD AND SHALL BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL,” which translated means, “GOD WITH US.”

Matthew 1:21-23

Another reason I love this passage is the phrase “God with us.” But who is the “us”? First, it’s sinners in need of salvation. God, in His love, comes to save us. He seeks us out and finds us where we are. Second, the “us” refers to His people. While we are still sinners, God demonstrates His unparalleled love by not only delivering us from our sin but also by making us His very own. As it’s says in Psalm 100:3

“Know that the LORD Himself is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.”
