“For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

Hebrews 4:15-16

Throughout the beautiful book of Hebrews, certain key phrases echo with deep meaning, inviting us closer to God’s heart. One such phrase is “draw near.” We’re reminded that in Jesus Christ, we have a loving High Priest who understands us completely. He was tempted in every way we are, yet He remained without sin. Because of this, He can truly sympathize with our struggles against sin while also offering us the perfect help we need. The Greek word translated as “in time of need,” eukairon, might be more tenderly understood as “well-timed” help.

Isn’t it comforting to know that our wonderful, compassionate High Priest knows exactly how to provide the mercy and grace we need, right in the very moment we need it most? Hebrews gently encourages us to draw near to Jesus with confidence—to come openly, speaking freely from our hearts—trusting that He truly understands, deeply cares, and is always ready to give us precisely what we need, exactly when we need it. So, let us draw near to Him with open hearts, resting in His boundless love.
