“Who is like the LORD our God, Who is enthroned on high, Who humbles Himself to behold The things that are in heaven and in the earth?”
Psalm 113:5–6

There is no other God like the God of the Bible. He alone is exalted above all nations; His glory is higher than the heavens. Yet, despite His infinite majesty, He humbles Himself to know you personally and to care for every detail of your life.

St. Augustine wisely mocked the pagan gods in his monumental work The City of God. As Rome was being sacked, the pagans had to carry their idols to safety—protecting their gods instead of being protected by them. When the barbarians overran the city, the pagans had to find their sanctuary by fleeing into Christian churches.

In Psalm 113, the same glorious and transcendent God stoops down to know His people and to transform their lives. He lifts the poor and needy from the dust, raises them from the ash heap, and sets them in places of honor. He makes the barren woman dwell in her home as a joyful mother of children.

These blessings reveal that God’s gospel is not of this world. His kingdom turns earthly values upside down: the first shall be last, the greatest are those who serve, the weak overcome the strong, and the “foolish things of God” confound the wisdom of man. His grace shines brightest in our weakness.

No matter who we are or what we face in this life, God knows us. Those who love Him and by faith are loyal to Him will never be disappointed—neither in this age nor in the glorious age to come.
